I love chocolate croissants. I love them. Seriously, flaky pastry and dark chocolate, should be against the law. I buy frozen chocolate croissants from Trader Joe's that are incredible but you have to plan ahead, thaw, rise, bake, all this means you have to plan 5 or 6 hours. I decided to try my hand at a quick substitute. Yesterday while I was shopping at Wally, I happened up on some croissants. The ingredients were decent, nothing artificial. There were 6 to a box. A box came home with me.
First step was to mix up a sugar glaze. Powdered sugar, vanilla and hot water. Coated the croissants with this and set them on a cookie rack to dry. Next, I mixed up a chocolate ganache. I poured and spread this on the croissants. I set them in the oven (turned off) to dry a bit. I heated two of them up a while later. I had to threaten myself to keep from eating the other 4. Will I do this again? Oh, yeah. This demands a repeat performance.
They could have been prettier but I don't think they could have tasted any better. Unless they had more chocolate on them...
Thank You, Father, for chocolate!
